Hello Magic Bus supporters! I’m Ross, Magic Bus UK’s Information Coordinator. If you’ve ever looked around our website, read our seasonal newsletter, or just seen a Magic Bus UK post on social media, then you will have seen some of my work! Right now, I’m somewhere over Europe, jetting my way to Mumbai on my very first visit to India.
Everyone at Magic Bus was extremely saddened to hear the news that Tessa Jowell had lost her fight against brain cancer over the weekend. Tessa was a great friend to Magic Bus and visited many of our programmes in India on a number of occasions. She will be remembered as an inspiring, thoughtful and generous woman who always took the time to spend time with Magic Bus children and hear directly from them about their lives, their challenges and their dreams.
Back in April Magic Bus UK was invited to the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust Fan Zone 2018 and Programme Volunteer Jenson Rajkumar and Fundraising Director Jane Backlog were on hand to take part. On a beautiful spring Saturday in West London, the Fan Zone is the annual event for The Bees and local fans were keen to get involved.
At the time of writing I have left Mumbai and am now travelling by bus from Delhi to Jaipur. As I take the opportunity to explore more of India by myself, I thought I’d write one more blog post to collect my thoughts about everything I’ve seen and experienced in Mumbai. I realise a common theme throughout my writing has been about all the contrasts in Mumbai. It’s an idea that’s stuck with since the moment I landed and has only gotten stronger as I’ve explored more of the city.
TOMS UK hosted its annual Destination TOMS training experience in London, Manchester, Glasgow and Dublin. In the London and Dublin events, Magic Bus, as one of TOMS’ 90 Giving Partners worldwide, were invited to talk about the role of one (Giving Partner) in their One for One Business Model. Vic was our representative as the guest speaker for the London event while the Dublin leg was attended by Jenson.
We’re totally thrilled that Magic Bus UK is going to be reprsented in the 2018 London Marathon by Thomas Cooke! This will be Tom’s second marathon and his first for Magic Bus UK. Magic Bus UK is proud to announce our official partnership with the short documentary film Ladies First. Ladies First, created by Uraaz Bahl and Shaana Levy-Bahl, tells the story of Deepika Kumari, one of India’s leading athletes and one of the greatest archers in the world. This amazing documentary tells Deepika’s story, from growing up in poverty, discovering a love of archery, overcoming opposition and discrimination, escaping poverty and competing in the Rio 2016 Olympics.
