Magic Bus Gala Dinner 2012
More than 320 guests, including footballer Sol Campbell, designer Allegra Hicks, business man Arun Nayar and television presenter Dan Snow, put on their dancing shoes for the 12th annual Magic Bus Gala Dinner at The Dorchester on Wednesday 3rd October. The event had an Indian theme, as this is where the charity runs its programme to empower children and young people, and guests were entertained by a traditional Indian dance troupe, Grace’s Aces band and the fabulous DJ Anna Greenwood. The event’s aim was to raise funds and awareness for the charity and guests dug deep and raised just over £200,000.
The Hon Mrs Nisha Paul, Magic Bus UK Trustee and chair of the gala committee, said of the event ‘The Gala dinner is our main fundraising event of the year and is an amazing platform for the charity to share our vision of empowering children and young people throughout India. We are so grateful to our sponsors Investec, Stemcor and Stoke Place.’
During the night a young girl called Prajakta spoke to guests about her life growing up in the slums of Mumbai and how with the support of Magic Bus youth leaders she is now using her skills as a leader to encourage positive health practises in her community.
Matthew Spacie, Founder and CEO, said of the night ‘The money raised from the Gala will go a long way to helping us to continue our work with over 220,000 children in India. I am so grateful to our UK partners, the event sponsors and all guests who supported on the night and helped to change lives.’
